Last Minute Rush

Three glaring bugs have appeared during final testing. The game was due to be release today but I’m going to have to move the release back until Monday the 5th of June. It’s painful to admit this but these are tidy up bugs. i.e. animation , scoring and screen clearing bugs. I should have been fixing these last week. ;-)

Instead, I spent ages trying to get the InterPhace working on the Motorola Emulators and I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion I’m wasting my time. According to the emulators, the E1000, v3x and the E1078 work fine, but the v3, v3i, PEBL, SLVR don’t.

On the net, the general consensus is ignore the emulators and try it on the handsets but unfortunately, the RAZ3 that I tried it on came up with an Out of Memory error. Admittedly it got further along than the emulator did but still it was a kicker. I might try a cut down version tonight but if it doesn’t work tomorrow, then I’ve got to be strong and write it off. The game uses 200K in the heap and the non-working models should have 800K.

On better news, I can confirm that the game works on the Sony Erricson K750i, W800i and W810i handsets. This is really good news. In addition, the RumbleX top ten score board works on WAP2, which is even better news.

Now, all I’ve got to do is work out how let people know about InterPhace 1.1.

Most Excellent News

Interphace 1.1 has now past initial testing. I can confirm that it works on the Nokia Series 60 (v2).

There is a problem with the Score upload but that’s due to the network connection settings on a phone. If a connection goes through a WAP gateway, it doesn’t work. This is an issue with all HttpConnection usage so there’s not much I can do about it. However, use a direct connection to the net and it works fine. I’ll put that explanation in as an error message and update the FAQ.

Now it’s a case of modifying the website, making press releases and sending out review copies. There’s more to this than just coding (!).

Almost there!

Bugs have been discovered and fixed. My first high score has been uploaded throught the Emulator and the new language settings appear to be working a treat.

Still got a few issues with some of the graphics and the player edit but I think I'm almost there.

Fingers Crossed for the next week.

New Version in the works

Well, I'm working on a new version for the Basic Interphace game. So far, I've added both french and german to the game and I'm tiding up the interphace itself to make it easier to understand.

However, I'm working with another developer to enable players to upload their scores to the web and see how they're doing in the league. I'm adding InterPhace to the http://www.rumbleX.com network.

I've got to update the Interphace website soon to reflect all of this. The game itself should be going to beta within two weeks but, as usual, that can change when real life gets in the way..
